Secrets of the Skincare Industry
By Meryl
Secrets of the Skincare Industry. It sounds so scandalous. Perhaps the title should be, dubious practices of the skincare industry. But it doesn't have the same ring to it and you might not have clicked through. I'm just being honest!
The truth is many of these large companies, or corporations (who even own small indie brands) are spending the majority of their budget on really good marketing and spokespeople. That's just the cost of doing business you might say. You're right, good marketing costs a pretty penny but what's really troubling here is the fact that many of these companies that are charging hundreds of dollars for their products are not really delivering a high quality product. Luxury brands don't always mean luxury ingredients.
I was like you. Before I got into this business I generally thought that some of these more expensive products must have had really good ingredients in them to call for such a high price tag. As I did my research to develop our formulas and find out where other companies were making their products. I found this wasn't the case.

During my research process I visited these same labs where these large luxury brands manufacture their products. I saw what they were willing to spend on their ingredients and it wasn't pretty. When I visited a manufacturer who makes products for one large luxury skincare brand (who charges hundreds for their creams), I was shocked to find out that this company only wanted to spend a maximum of $1 for the cost of their ingredients for a face cream.
What's even crazier is that it's often the packaging that usually costs more than the serum or cream it holds. Those elegant fancy glass jars, yeah, you're paying $$$ for those!
...it's often the packaging that usually costs more than the serum or cream it holds."
Needless to say I was pretty angry when I found out about all of this. It felt like total betrayal. How could they act like their creams contained some miraculous solution that would heal all wounds (so to speak) when it was nothing more than a drugstore level product.
Not to mention all the glowing reviews and testimonials where people had sworn by this product. A cult favorite if you will.
Why do they do this? Why spend all the time, money and energy on fancy promotion instead of integrity? Well, we might be here all day if we unpack that question, but it's something that disturbs me. That's why we at Anjolie are in the business we're in. We ensure that the majority of our budget goes into our ingredients. It's why we don't hire a spokesperson, because we don't want to pass that cost on to you. That's why we're selling our products online too. It's more cost effective for us to be able to share our story, and get the word out online.
We started our company because we wanted to offer a product that contained the best ingredients with the most integrity. Our products aren't "cheap" because we don't want to offer something that you could get from anyone else. We want to bring something different to our customers and put together formulas that are going to really work for you. That's why we're using sea botanicals, because we feel they give us the most bang for our buck, especially since they are six times more powerful than land based plants. Not to mention they are more sustainable since they grow in water and grow very rapidly with no pesticides, just mother nature doing her thing!
The food industry has been exposed for it's practices but it's about time we share some of the knowledge we've gained and the practices that are going on in this industry. I hope this makes you feel empowered since you ultimately can make the decision with your wallet! You can trust that our ingredients are top notch because we use our products every single day!
